Kylie Minogue
Megastar Kylie started out as a soap actress in her native Australia, taking on the role of Charlene in Neighbours in the mid-80s and started her music career in 1987 with the single ‘Locomotion’. Her pre-existing fame meant the single shot to Number One in Australia and stayed there for seven weeks. She signed a contract with songwriting colloborators Stock Aiken and Waterman (SAW) and went on to release the hugely successful Kylie in 1988. The big hit from Kylie was ‘I Should Be So Lucky’, which went to number one in the UK. Several more Top Ten hits followed.
She released four albums with SAW before leaving the collaboration in 1992. Her next single, 1994’s ‘Confide In Me’, was a hit, as was her duet with fellow Aussie Nick Cave, ‘Where The Wild Roses Grow’, from the album Kylie Minogue. The latter song moved her image away from the teen-pop she had become associated with. Her popularity in Britain dwindled somewhat in the later 90s, but she had a comeback with the massive hit ‘Spinning Around’ in 2000, helped along by the famous ‘Gold Hotpants’ video. Her sound became more dance-orientated, with the 2001 single ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head’ and the album Fever becoming worldwide hits. The Fever tour was cancelled in 2005 when Minogue was diagnosed with breast cancer. She recovered after treatment and went on tour again in 2006 on the Showgirl tour. She released her tenth album, X in 2008 and went on tour again in 2009.
